Jersey Shore Keeps ED Nurse on the Go

Marguerite Gatto, R.N., doesn’t just have a willing ear in her dog, Snuggles. Her Jersey Shore OB/GYN listened to her with respect and care. A 15-year veteran of the Jersey Shore University Medical Center Emergency Department, Marguerite Gatto, R.N., 50, isn’t used to taking things slow. So when she started feeling rundown last year, Marguerite was caught by surprise. For several months she experienced very long and exceptionally heavy periods. Then she started getting dizzy and light-headed.

A coworker recommended she see Steven Morgan, M.D., a Jersey Shore OB/GYN and medical director of the Ocean County Family Planning Center. He diagnosed menorrhagia, or heavy menstrual bleeding. Soon after, Marguerite underwent a sophisticated, minimally invasive procedure called cryoablation, known as Her Option.™ Fast, Saf e Alternative Heavy menstrual bleeding like Marguerite experienced is not uncommon as women approach menopause. “But it’s not a normal part of aging,” Dr. Morgan says, “and it’s not something women have to live with.”

In the past, treatment for menorrhagia meant surgery or hormone treatment. Cryoablation is a safe office-based procedure that takes just 15 to 20 minutes. It uses very cold temperatures to destroy some of the endometrium. “Most women see their periods return to normal or eliminated altogether,” Dr. Morgan explains.

Care for All Ages, Stages

Marguerite’s experience is far from unique. Jersey Shore offers sophisticated obstetric and gynecologic care for women of all ages and at all stages of life. The multi-disciplinary team includes physicians who are board certified in both obstetrics/gynecology and gynecologic oncology, as well as nurses who specialize in women’s cancer care. But it’s not just the high-tech procedure that has Marguerite raving. It was the thoughtful and respectful care she received from Dr. Morgan — something she’s come to expect from her Jersey Shore colleagues. “He took the time to explain things to me and let me know that I had choices,” she says. “It wasn’t just, ‘This is what we’re going to do.’ And I really appreciated that.”

For Dr. Morgan, who has been at Jersey Shore since he did his residency, the hospital combines the best of high-tech care with a smaller, friendly atmosphere. “It’s the kind of place where you walk down the hallway and everybody says ‘hello,’” he says. “There’s a lot this hospital offers that a lot of others don’t.”
